The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) and Natural England in collaboration with IExpE are developing a project to investigate seabed disturbance following UXO clearance. Concern has been raised recently regarding potential damage to protected seabed features during UXO clearance.

To help address this, JNCC and Natural England are developing a project to investigate the potential for seabed damage and consider in the context of other activities that interact with the seabed, for example, cable installation and commercial fishing. This would then inform future advice given to regulators as part of their consenting process. Key to the success of this project is obtaining data collected during post-clearance surveys. In particular we are interested in:

• Type of operation (UXO/Demolition/seismic)

• Approximate Location (North Sea, Channel etc)

• Charge Size

• NEQ of UXO

• Mitigation Used

• Water Depth

• Fresh / Salt Water

• Crater Depth

• Crater Width

• Seabed Type

• Any additional comments

We require the data to be received by the 30th September 2021, and If you would like to become involved in the collection of this data please contact the IExpE office by email: charlottepenwright@iexpe.org
