Department for Transport

Dear Stakeholder

You may be aware that the Dangerous Goods division of the Department for Transport has been planning a consolidation of all the existing regulations on the carriage of dangerous goods, so that the UK industry need refer only to one Statutory Instrument instead of four or five.

I am now pleased to tell you that the consolidation will no longer be necessary.  The 2009 Regulations have long been displayed on the Government’s legislation website.  Until recently, it was possible to see only the 2009 regulations separately, without the effect of the amendments passed in 2011, 2019 and 2020.  This is no longer the case.

If you follow this link to the legislation website https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2009/1348/contents/made          you will see there is a heading ‘What version’ in the left hand column.  Below that are two options: Latest available (Revised) and Original (As made).  A click on the first option will show you the 2009 Regulations incorporating all of the amendments passed in 2011, 2019 and 2020.  Thus, the regulations have already been consolidated and there is no need for us to repeat this in another Statutory Instrument.
