As a Weapons Effects on Structures Engineer, the main task will be providing specialist construction advice to clients on MoD works that are subject to weapons effects such as blast, fragmentation, shock & ballistics in the principal subject areas of:

  • Explosives Storage & Processing Facilities,
  • Counter Terrorist Measures (for domestic buildings),
  • Hardened Structures (war HQ, bunkers, protective shelters),
  • Force Protection (e.g. Hardened Accommodation in Theatre)
    • support to the Royal Engineers,
  • Physical security (e.g. Armouries, secure rooms, fences & barriers).

 

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will be accountable to the Head of the Weapons Effects on Structures (WES) team who holds technical responsibilities in the following ‘Weapons Effects’ subject areas:

  • To represent MoD on legislative, industry and MoD committees.
  • To produce & promulgate MoD Policy & technical standards
  • To provide specialist input to works Projects in accordance with published Policy.
  • To carry out research & development in support of the above.
  • To carry out Audits & Assurance both internally to MOD and externally.
  • To direct the work of specialist consultants.
  • To maintain MoD’s specialist Library & records concerning weapon effects on building structures.
  • To mentor and lead support staff when required.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring adherence to all agreed DIO processes & operating procedures and will be required to work collaboratively with all parts of the organisation and to facilitate appropriate DIO interfaces.
