More details

UWTSD has been successful in accessing European funding for a suite of projects which focus on skills development and the application of the industrial digital technologies and advanced manufacturing technologies that are at the heart of the ‘fourth industrial revolution’, the so-called Industry 4.0 (I4.0) revolution. I4.0 technologies include, virtual reality modelling and data capture, 3-D scanning, computer aided design, simulation and analysis, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping and tooling, and additive manufacturing. Aimed predominately, but not exclusively, at the manufacturing sector, the projects will identify and address skills gaps, and encourage knowledge transfer, research and development and commercialisation. Through such activity, the projects are designed to create a positive impact on the economic performance of individual companies as well as on the Welsh manufacturing sector as a whole. The projects are based in UWTSD’s Innovation Quarter at SA1 in Swansea and delivered pan-Wales.

The Industry Relationship Officer will work with the Industry Relationship Manager and the MADE Cymru team with particular focus on engagement with appropriate businesses in North Wales, maximising the engagements for all elements of the MADE Cymru programme.

The Industry Relationship Officer will work in promoting and generating interest in the projects with both individual manufacturing companies and industry representative bodies focusing on North Wales. A key aspect of this activity will be to secure expressions of interest from companies to participate in the projects, and to build and maintain long-term strategic relationships with anchor and supply chain companies, industrial federations and Government in Wales in line with the Projects and the University’s strategic objectives.

The appointee will have in-depth and leading knowledge of the manufacturing sector within Wales, and knowledge of the broader I4.0 technologies and their commercial application, ideally gained within an applied research and development environment. The post holder should therefore have experience of operating effectively at the interaction between the commercial and educational sectors and have direct experience of the commercialisation of technology and the transfer of knowledge arising from research.

The post holder will have a proven and well-established network of contacts within industry and cognate industrial representatives (such as the MAKE UK) in Wales, such that strategic partnerships and operational delivery can be developed and maintained

The post holder will be an excellent communicator who can demonstrate a track record of engaging senior figures from industry, business and the public sector as well as having the potential to gain the respect of the academic community. They will be highly motivated, proactive and capable of maintaining effective and productive relationships between the University and the manufacturing sector within Wales. The post holder will be expected to travel across Wales, primarily focused on North Wales to engage with companies on their own premises.
