Job description

Would you like to put your Modelling and Simulation skills to use by joining the force behind our Armed Forces whilst ensuring our national security? We have unique opportunities to become part of our Land Equipment Operating Centre (LEOC) here at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).

As a Modelling and Simulation Engineer, you will be working with the latest military training systems whilst defining next generation software packages to help train our Army. You could be working on the Collective Training Transformation Programme (CTTP) or within our Training & Simulation Systems Portfolio (TSSP).

The CTTP aims to deliver the Future Collective Training System (FCTS) for the Army. The FCTS will also transform the collective training experience for soldiers and commanders at all levels through improved access to data and a more flexible blend of live, virtual, and constructive training. TSSP aims to support the existing training packages across Land and Joint Environments to enable the Armed Forces to successfully prepare for operations. We are looking for enthusiastic, diligent engineers with an interest in computer software, gaming or/and training systems for a multitude of projects. TSSP manages in-service training through Live, Simulated and Constructive methods for many equipment’s within the LEOC, ranging from small arm weapons up to the Challenger 2 main battle tank for individual through to brigade scale audiences. TSSP is continuously looking to improve training capability, working with the Army to develop the current and to procure new systems ensuring the User is always ready for the emerging threats and the next theatres of operation.  

Due to the nature of security requirements, this role is open to sole UK nationals only and you may be required to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance once in the post.

Please note, there may be frequent travel to both Andover and Warminster required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of all engineering aspects in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects
  • Provide expert advice and guidance in own technical area to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks
  • Manage the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service or system
  • Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (i.e. HNC) qualification in a relevant engineering field, or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • Experience with training and simulation
  • Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
