Course Description

Aimed at film special effects technicians (SFX) wishing to advance their knowledge. The course aims to further educate personnel in the safe use of explosives in the SFX industry. Provide training to a level appropriate for sufficiently experienced Technician to apply for an upgrade to Senior Technician through BECTU.
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to;
- Be aware of the aspects involved in creating a risk assessment and method statement covering use of explosives in SFX work.
- Understand the environmental aspects of explosive SFX and how to reduce disturbance.
- Understand the legislation, regulations, code of practice and safety requirements that need to be met to conduct safe explosive SFX.
- Be able to readily identify the most common explosive articles and substances used for explosive SFX and understanding their limitations and safe use.

Film special effects Technicians.
Prerequisites to qualify for level 2:
- Completed SFX level 1 (Or equivalent).
- 250 days of experience handling explosives.
