What is Professional Registration?

Professional Registration is a status awarded to qualified engineers and technicians. It is awarded by licensed bodies who represent the Engineering Council and is based on knowledge, competence and commitment to professionalism. Find out more about the categories available.

From this network, we pair our candidates with experienced explosives engineers who stand ready to advise and assist during your journey to professional registration.

Which category is right for me?

Once you’ve decided to become professionally registered, you’ll want to make sure that you choose the right category. So which should you choose?

Becoming Professionally Registered

Professional Registration is your personal benchmark of commitment to a professional approach to working with explosives. To quote from the Engineering Council’s UK-SPEC:

“Professional registration underpins the systems and processes that ensure the current and future safeguarding of society. It provides employers, government and society, in the UK and overseas, with the confidence that professionally registered engineers and technicians possess and maintain the knowledge, skills and commitment required to meet the engineering and technological needs of today, whilst also catering for the needs of future generations.

Registration sets individual professionals apart from engineers and technicians who are not registered. It establishes their proven knowledge, understanding and competence. In particular, registration demonstrates a commitment to professional standards, and to developing and enhancing competence.”

Your journey towards Professional Registration begins with understanding the route available and the standards against which you will be measured. Information regarding the registration criteria that are assessed throughout the application process can be found in UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK) Spec by the Engineering Council.

The fourth edition of the UK-SPEC was published on 31st August 2020 and will be fully implemented by 31st December 2021.

01 August 2021 onwards              Applications accepted on 4th Edition of UK-SPEC only

Professional Registration Advisors – PRA’s

IExpE have trained Professional Registrations Advisors (PRA’s) to assist applicants through the application process. Our PRA’s are already professional registered so they have had experience with the application process and they have gone through the JRB PRA training. PRA’s can answer any questions you may have, and they can read your application documents to provide feedback.

The success rate of applicants becoming professional registered when having a PRA is higher in comparison to applicants who have not had a PRA. Our PRA’s volunteer their time to help Professional Registration applicants and try and provide feedback as soon as they can. PRA’s is a free service, so please contact rizzasims@iexpe.org to help allocate you a PRA.

Professional Registration Fees

Application fees must be paid before your application is submitted into the Review Panel.

Your Registration fee will be due once your application has been successful, where you will then be required to pay the Engineering Council Annual Subscription fee annually in January to renew your registration with the Engineering Council.

All fees are exclusive of VAT.
