The transition period of the UK’s exit from the EU ended on 31 December 2020 and you’ll no doubt be aware that this saw the introduction of the new UK conformity assessment arrangements for manufactured goods being placed on the UK market and the establishment of the UK Explosives Approved Body (UK EAB) (please see https://www.hse.gov.uk/explosives/ce-marking/index.htm  for further background information).  To enable businesses to get ready for the new system, the Government allowed a 12-month transitional period which is due to end on 31 December 2021.

Currently there is one UK EAB accredited to undertake conformity assessment of the full range of civil explosive products being placed on the market in the UK. In order for them to provide the UK civil explosives sector with an appropriate service, they must be able to plan and target their resources and expertise effectively.  With this in mind, HSE has commissioned a short survey and would welcome your support in gaining insight on the potential needs of the explosives sector in relation to conformity assessment of civil explosives.

The survey is available at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/HSE_UK-EAB_survey  and the closing date for responses is Wednesday 7 April 2021.
