We are now looking for a Technical Team Lead to join us at our research laboratory and outdoor testing facilities in Buxton on a full-time, permanent basis. We are also offering this role on a part-time basis working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

The Role

As a Technical Team Lead, you will join our Major Hazards Group and take the lead in practical testing and research work focused on explosives testing.

Based at our licenced explosives site in Buxton, you will provide technical leadership and insight to the team, ensuring the safe delivery of experimental explosives and pyrotechnics testing. You will provide clear technical leadership for complex, high hazard experimental work and ensure that the end results are scientifically robust and meet project scope.

You will also contribute to the work of the UK Explosives Approved Body, work closely with business development and customers and other stakeholders to develop work in this area and contribute to a range of public and private sector projects.

Additionally, you will:

– Support and lead incident investigations
– Act as an expert witness for investigations
– Help to develop commercial projects and present technical solutions
– Coach and mentor colleagues and support ongoing professional development

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake travel and occasional overnight stays.

About You

To be considered as a Technical Team Lead, you will need:

– The proven ability to lead technical teams in delivering complex, high hazard testing and research
– In-depth knowledge of explosives and pyrotechnics testing, including standard (UN and EMTAP) and bespoke tests
– A strong understanding of explosives and pyrotechnics safety
– The ability to work independently and collaboratively
– Excellent communication skills and experience engaging diverse stakeholders
– At a minimum, an honours degree in Explosives Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field
– A full, valid driving licence
