Hi Anthony,
I, through my company Amber Valley Blasting Services, am the UK agent for Ontaris who provide such a system as you require. Their website is www.ontaris.eu The software can be run on any windows (version 7 or later) tablet computer that has a bluetooth radio and a USB port. Unfortunately a system to run on an ipad is not available. The minimum purchase is the software plus a handheld scanner. The program reads scanned items into and out of the database. If you require to use your own computer, bear in mind it has to go inside the explosives store linked via bluetooth to the scanner. The touch screen tablet available from Ontaris is IP65 rated. If your supplier provides xml files these are handled easily by the software. The software fulfils all requirements of the Explosives Regulations 2014. Please contact me if you require more details/quote etc.

Regards
Phil Robinson FM 0393

Thanks for input everyone! Seemed to take a long time for my query to appear so I thought it had been lost?

We are blasting around 3,000,000 bcm per month so our magazine is quite busy!

Currently using pen and paper.

The main issue is that we may be loading a number of shots in a day so we need to correlate usage pattern by pattern which may be on the same bench. Normally works ok but we have had instances where we cannot account for a booster, last time it had fallen down the blast hole when we were throwing them out and another time it had fallen behind the plastic packaging and was still in the box.

The other side is we don't want to over complicate the issue so maybe stay with pen and paper or develop an excel or database system.

Anthony,
Given there are a number of software with reader packages now on the market which is best I would suggest is a matter of what you need from the service. These will deal with all explosives that are bar coded post the implementation date of the requirements to provide explosives so marked. Any explosives before that date are still subject to the previous information recording. As you are in quarrying the question would be how many different products do you use and is it still possible to use book records as Mark suggests, as opposed to electronic recording. The investment in this form of equipment is not cheap.

Hi Anthony,
I have been managing a test facility for a number of years now and also had difficulty obtaining software package which could track explosive usage, types, and also calculate NEQ for individual or multiple stores. I have developed a Excel database that does all the above and also includes other information such as explosive expiry dates, I use a traffic light system to highlight stock in advance of it becoming life ex, UN classification codes, batch numbers, hazard classifications, I also hyperlinked MSDS, s & risk assessments so all explosive related information is available in a single database.
It took a bit of time to develop but is works well and above all is accurate. Monthly audits have proved that the database is accurate. It may be worth your while creating a database in Excel.
Best Regards,
Brian Rose

Hello Anthony,
I don't know if this is the kind of software you're after. We looked at it a few years ago, it runs on a bespoke handheld scanner (not ipad) but the company might have updated it since.

Hi Anthony
For 30 years I've used the old technology of a pen and notebook. :)
Plus 'stack cards' on top of each type of explosive kept.
The Police do seem to prefer that , as there is much less possibility of changing things later.
In parallel to that we have bespoke software written for MS Access, years ago. I'll watch this thread with interest in case there is something more up-to date, especially a software package which can provide a current NEQ per store for many mixed natures.
Best regards
Mark
