IExpE Notices

Purpose of Notices

On the IExpE web site we use articles we call Notices to provide information that has a limited shelf life to the readership. An article that promulgates an Institute Annual General Meeting, for instance, ceases to be of interest once the meeting has happened and so will be posted on the site as a notice. By contrast, articles like those that explain how someone might join the Institute have a long shelf life because they continue to be of interest to a constant sea of potential members. They only require to be changed when aspects of the infomation they contain changes.

It’s fair to asssume that most new information will have a limited life and therefore will be published as a notice. Members of the Institute are already familiar with its static or permanent content and so will tend towards Notices. Because notices are time sensitive, they appear in the order that they are published with the newest of them appearing at the head of the list.

New information that will remain relevant for a longer time will published in the permanent or static side of the site but may well be referenced for an initial period by a Notice that draws attention to it and provides a link for convenience.

Categories of Notices

Currently notices are categorised into those which are of relevance to all vistors to the site and those which are of relevance to the Institute’s members only. Notices announcing jobs are given special treatment and may appear in the members’ section for an initial period before being made available more widely.

The Web Site RSS Feed

Members and other interested parties are encouraged to subscribe to the web site feed using one of the methods described in the article here. This will notify them automatically whenever a new notice is published on the site and will indicate its content.

Who May Post a Notice on the Site

Anyone can post a notice on the site provided it meets the criteria of relevance to the membership and should contact the Secretariat in the first instance.

The webmaster is always ready to tutor those who may want to publish notices on a regular basis for themselves. The criteria for that is that they should find it more convenient, more expedient or more enjoyable and fulfilling to do it for themselves.
