The Sector Skills Strategy Group (SSSG) is a collaborative group of defence sector companies and other related organisations working together to provide strategic direction to sustain explosives skills.

The current members of the SSSG are:

The vision of the SSSG is to:

  • Provide strategic direction to sustain the explosives skills required to meet present and future business needs and so raise the reputation of the UK explosives sector;
  • Seek to exploit sector-wide collaborative skill development opportunities and other UK and European Goverment skill development initiatives;

Through a collective voice seek to influence government skills policy as appropriate. The way the SSSG works is through quarterly meetings of the main group, which oversees the following expert working groups (EWG):

  • Explosives Disposal Processes WG (EDPWG)
  • Manufacturing, processing and Configuration Control (MPCC EWG)
  • Test, Trials and Evaluation on Ranges and in Laboratories (T&T EWG)
  • Storage and Transportation (Storage EWG)
  • Explosives Safety Management (ESM EWG)
  • Past Accident Review (PAR EWG)
  • Early Careers Focus Group (ECFG)
  • Education and Training (E&T EWG)
